Mela guitar quartet
Going with the Theme of Returning Artists we are delighted to welcome back George Tarlton and Jiva Housden who played as a guitar duo at the 2014 Stogumber Festival. You will remember that they met at the Guildhall School of Music in 2012. Now they have formed The Mela Guitar Quartet with Matthew Robinson and Daniel Bovey and are going down a storm wherever they play. This has led the group to work in collaboration with many contemporary composers as well as playing their own transcriptions and arrangements. Mēla, an Indian word meaning festive gathering, embodies the ethos of the Mēla guitar quartet and we are delighted that they will play at the 2018 Stogumber Festival. They present a beautifully crafted programme with a fine mix of commissioned works and their own transcriptions of familiar pieces. Interestingly they all play on instruments made by master luthier Michael Gee. See below for links to hear them play and for further information about their repertoire.
