Avtar is from the Punjab region of India, home of Bhangra folk dance, and grew up listening to Bhangra music legends and watching iconic Bollywood films (from colourful happy sing-a-longs to tragic melodramas) in the Hindi language. After moving to the South West of England Avtar began running dance and cultural education sessions to keep in touch with his roots and cultural heritage.
Bhangra and Bollywood dance can be quite strenuous, but Avtar and Anne prefer a more gentle pace in their workshops that builds - helping participants to experience the fun of Indian dance with a joyful celebration of India’s rich and diverse culture. The dance is to a variety of music styles, including traditional Indian music, folk, filmi, Bhangra and Indian pop, most of which has featured in Bollywood films. The Indian dance session is suitable for all ages and abilities.
