Gathering Tides have a completely fresh approach to traditional and contemporary music from around the world. Weaving together folk, jazz, rock and more, this young and innovative band transcend genre labels. Their unique lineup of fiddle, electric guitar, bass and cajon means they slip effortlessly from heavy riffs to fiery fiddle tunes, or from smooth improvisation to klezmer.
Meeting at the prestigious Royal Birmingham Conservatoire as part of Joe Broughton's Conservatoire Folk Ensemble, each band member brings a unique palette of sound to the band. Seth Bye (fiddle) was classically trained from the age of seven but soon developed a passion for folk and world music. Seth has performed at folk clubs and festivals across the UK, including The Cecil Sharpe House, Warwick Folk Festival and many more. Sam Baldwin (electric guitar) has roots in progressive rock music, bringing power and drive to the band's sound; having performed at venues such as the o2 Academy Birmingham. Dan Cippico (bass) studies composition at Birmingham Conservatoire, he composing at a young age by imitating the sounds of Japanese computer games from the 90's. He has written soundtracks for films such has Grey Roots and 19 Billion. Alexander Henshaw studies percussion in all shapes and sizes, from samba-cajon-rhythms to traditional boran playing. When not making music, he is an avid photographer and filmmaker.
